About this tour
Lagoa do Fogo ("Lake of Fire") lies in a nature reserve high in the Água de Pau massif, with no buildings around it, only white beaches and green cliffs. It is often in cloud, so we plan this tour flexibly and go up the moment the sky clears.
Afterwards we descend through a prehistoric-looking fern forest to Caldeira Velha, where a warm waterfall pours into natural thermal pools.

FAQ
Can you hike down to Lagoa do Fogo?
Yes, a steep trail leads from the road down to the lake shore. It takes about 40 minutes down and longer to climb back up. On a private tour we can include the hike if the weather is clear, or simply enjoy the viewpoints from the road.
Do I need to book Caldeira Velha in advance?
Caldeira Velha has limited daily capacity and time slots for bathing. We reserve your slot when you book the tour, so you don't have to queue.
Make it a full day by adding Furnas in the afternoon.
